School Wide Walk

It was a beautiful morning for our school wide walk. We celebrated all our "paws" points.

School Rules

All the scholars at JES know the school rules.  The school rules are Respect Self, Respect Others, Respect Property, and Enjoy Learning Together.

Cardboard Challenge

We had a wonderful day of creativity, hard work, and fun. Yesterday all JES students participated in The Global Cardboard Challenge. They planned, cut, taped, and built.  Some students worked on their own. Others worked with a partner. On Friday, we will have a gallery walk to share all our creations.

Celebration

We celebrated over 20,000 paws points at school wide meeting yesterday. We all joined in with our JES cheer.

Teachers Learning Together

Exciting professional development is happening today at JES. Teachers in second, third, and fourth grade from the Jericho and Underhill are participating in writing workshop training with Beth Moore. Beth is from the Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University. This work is so important as we work to implement the new Common Core Writing Standards.

We had our first "pawsitive" celebration today. During all school meeting we danced the Chicken
Dance. Mrs. Randall's 4th graders showed us how to dance!

School Is Open

We have had a great start to school.  It has been wonderful to see everyone after the summer break.
JES students are getting to know each other and are learning the routines in their classrooms.

Convocation

Today we gathered as a supervisory union to celebrate the beginning our the 2013-2014 school year. We were given the challenge meet the needs of all our students especially our students who are living in poverty.  The Secretary of Education, spoke to us about the importance of pre-school education and uses our resources wisely. There was also fun and laughter.

Today was the first day back for Jericho teachers. We spent the day digging deeper into understanding how students learn mathematics. Lots of great work.

Kindergarten Orientation

Our kindergarten class of 2013-2014 visited today. What a wonderful day. Welcome to JES.

Salad Days

Our new salad bar arrived today. Thanks to PIE for the funding to purchase this great "kid-sized" salad bar.  Also, check out our school garden. We will be able to harvest our own vegetables when school begins in late August.

Safe Route to School

We are making great progress on our sidewalk project at JES. This work is able to happen because JES was awarded a VTrans Safe Route to School Infrastructure grade in July of 2010.  Jericho Elementary School is a silver partner in the Vermont Safe Route to Schools program. This allowed us to apply for the grant. Construction was supposed to occur in the summer of 2012 but had to be postponed due to workload at VTrans as a result of Hurricane Irene. Stop by the school to see our plan to make it safer for walkers and bikers at JES. We expect the project to be completed by August 20th.

Construction begins on our Safe Routes to School project today. When the project is completed on August 20th, we will have improved access for walkers and bikers to JES.

Farm to School Conference

The JES Farm to School Team has been attending the Farm to School Conference at Shelburne Farms.
We are learning so much about the three Cs of Farm to School. Thanks to our team members for giving their time to learn how to improve the well being of our school community. Mary-Lou Lapierre, Amy Beckwith, Jamie Lofy, and Lars Botzojorns.

Math Transformation

JES educators ended the school year by looking back at our mathematics work with children this year.
We reflected on our successes and what our next steps will be to ensure all our students are mathematical thinkers.

Summer Is Here

Today is the last day of school at JES.  We had a wonderful year filled with learning and laughter.
We wish all our JES families a great summer and we will see you in August.

Welcome Back

Spring has finally arrived at JES. On Monday, everyone will be returning from vacation. Then the year will begin to move very quickly. We are excited, thanks to PIE, to be hosting Michael Wingfield as our Artist in Residence for the next two weeks. The residence will end with a performance by our students on May 16th @ 6:30 in the MMU gym.

Visit To Mission Hill School

I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Mission Hill School in Boston. This is a pilot school in Boston that is governed using Democratic principles. All decisions are made with the student at the center of the decision. Check out  The year at Mission Hill

Budget Passed

During the annual Jericho school meeting yesterday, the Jericho voters approved our budget for the 2013-2014 school year. Thanks for all your support for Jericho students.

Winter Fest

Thanks to our Partners in Education group, JES students celebrated the beginning of vacation with a Winter Fest.  Students enjoyed skiing and snow games.

Art Work on Display at Central Office

Grade one students at JES worked on this project during art class last week. The project is now on display at the CESU office.  

100th Day of School

Mrs. Bouchard's class celebrated the 100th day of school with "100 crowns". Such fun to have visitors come to the office.

Cougar visits JES

Teachers have shared over 100,000 positive comments with JES students so far this year. To celebrate, the high school mascot visited our school on Tuesday.

Math Residency

The principal, the math coach, and the enrichment teacher have been teaching for a week with each classroom teacher. Here is the principal and a second grade teacher.

School Trip To The Flynn Theatre

The whole school attended the production of Skippyjon Jones. What a great show.

Cold Filtered Water

We now have a water fountain that provides cold, filtered water. It has a place to fill water bottes.
It keeps track of how many bottles we have saved. Stop by to fill your water bottle when you are in the building.

Taste Testing

Great news. JES students participated in our first taste test for the school year.  Everyone got a chance to try three bean chili.
